Bio
Leonardo Menchini is the UNICEF Advisor on Monitoring Child Rights in the Middle East and North Africa, coordinating and providing technical support to research and statistical work conducted by UNICEF in the 20 countries of the region, contributing to the implementation of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey programme in MENA. Before joining the UNICEF regional office, he has been a chief technical advisor at the ILO Decent Work Team for North Africa (2018- 2019), and chief of the at social policy/social inclusion sections at UNICEF Morocco (2016-2018) and UNICEF Egypt (2011-2016). From 2005 to 2011, he worked as a researcher in the socio-economic section of the UNICEF Office of Research Innocenti. He holds a PhD in Development Economics from the University of Florence, obtained with a thesis on demographic change, labour market imbalances and social policy in Egypt.
His areas of work and expertise include socio-economic and poverty analysis, inequality, social protection, public finance, demography, macro-economics, labour market.
