Regional Gender Advisor at the Regional Office for Middle East and North Africa of the UN Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights. She holds a Master’s degree in International Development Policy. She has diversified experience working for public sector as well as international organizations. In this regard, she worked for ten years in governmental offices during which she established the first NGOs registration directorate in Iraqi Ministry of Planning. During the last two decades, Ms. Abayechi worked in many international organizations focusing on human rights including UN Fund for Population (UNFPA), UNICEF and World Bank. Her expertise mainly focusses on gender mainstreaming in public policies and national action plans as well as women empowerment strategies and combating violence against women strategies. In addition, women role in peacebuilding in Arab region. She took the lead on design, plan and implement different capacity building programs for many stakeholders in particular government staff members in relation to gender equality and gender-based violence.
