Bio
Shatha A. Mahmoud has over 20 years of experience in the field of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Throughout her career, she has been heavily involved in regional programme management, capacity building and monitoring and evaluation with focus on women’s political, economic and social empowerment in the Arab region. She has experience in project management, resource mobilization and building partnerships, working with governments, women machineries, private sector and CSOs namely in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Before joining UNDP, Shatha was the women’s economic empowerment specialist at the UN Women Regional Office for Arab States, supporting the work on costing SDG5, gender and economy, role of private sector, bank and financial institutions in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, gender responsive procurement and other areas of expertise on women’s economic empowerment. Her expertise also involved working closely with groups of regional female entrepreneurs through different platforms such as the UN Women gender and innovation Agora. From 2015 to 2017, she worked with UNDP RBAS in Amman as part of the regional programme “Mosharaka” that focused on gender equality and women's empowerment. Shatha is certified as an ILO participatory gender audit facilitator, and in project management for development professionals. She has a master's degree in Women Studies at the Women Studies Department, School of Sociology, University of Kent at Canterbury.
