Bio
Dr Shadia Elshiwy is an Egyptian medical doctor holding an MSc in Public Health for Development earned from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Dr Elshiwy is a public health practitioner with an extensive experience in public health programs implementation and management in both development and humanitarian settings; focusing on sexual and reproductive health and preventing gender-based violence in the Middle East and North Africa region. Dr Shadia is a senior SRHR fellow at the Aspen Institute.
Dr Shadia has experience in working with governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations and UNFPA. She worked with the Egyptian ministry of family and population, and the U.S Naval Medical Research Unit regional office. Dr Elshiwy worked at the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) regional and central offices for 7 years, managing regional and global SRHR programs.
Dr Shadia is currently working at the UNFPA Arab States Regional Office; managing the two joint programs between UNFPA and UNICEF; the Joint Program to eliminate FGM and the Global Program to end child marriage.
