Bio
Pietro Tornese is an international development specialist with 9 years of experience in conducting and managing policy-relevant research and analysis to tackle the world’s greatest challenges.
He is currently Economic Affairs Officer at ESCWA’s Governance and Conflict Prevention cluster, where he advises Arab governments on transboundary risks and conflict prevention strategies. Prior to joining ESCWA, Pietro served at the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) in New York, where he designed and managed award-winning programme evaluations in South Asia, East Africa, West Africa and Southern Africa on fiscal decentralization, climate finance, subnational governance, institutional reforms, and development finance. He has also worked for Ernst & Young, Open Evidence, and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean. As an independent consultant, Pietro has co-authored a number of policy papers, experimental and quasi-experimental research for the European Commission. He holds a MSc in Economics from Bocconi University.
