Bio
Rami Zaatari is a senior Data and Technology officer at the Statistics, Information Society, and Technology Cluster at ESCWA. Since joining in 2006, Rami headed the track on measuring ICT and digital development in the Arab region and oversaw the development of ESCWA’s biennial flagship publication the “Regional Profile of the Information Society in Western Asia”. He contributed to several technical studies on ICT measurement, provided capacity building to member states, and represented ESCWA in various regional and international ICT measurement and digital development forums. Rami also managed the digital transformation of ESCWA’s legacy statistical data and launched the ESCWA Data Portal in 2019. He is currently overseeing the implementation and adoption of the Arab Digital Agenda (ADA), and the UN initiative on global geospatial information management in the region and represents his organization at the UN-GGIM meetings and events. Before joining ESCWA, He held several positions in telecom, software development, and teaching in the US and the Arab region. Rami holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer and Communications from the American University of Beirut and an MS degree in Software Engineering from Boston University. He is currently pursuing a GIS degree from Johns Hopkins University.
