Bio
He oversees ESCWA’s Program on Governance, Conflict Mitigation and Development, which focuses on supporting Member States in conflict or post-conflict settings in enhancing institutional capacities in conflict prevention and foster institutional development that aim at achieving SDGs. He has written, spoken and organized meetings on topics such as Impact of conflict, political and socio-economic development in countries afflicted by conflict, SDGs, National Dialogues; Challenges of Transition, Displacement, Governance Deficit, conflict relapse, Occupied Palestine. He has served the United Nations in several capacities. He has been the Director, a.i of Economic development and Globalization Division; Director, a.i. of Economic Analysis Division and served as head of Macroeconomic Policy Unit.
Dr. Alami was assistant to Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) 1992 and a professor of Economics at the American University of Beirut from 1996-2004. He taught International Trade, International Finance and Advanced Microeconomics. He has published several articles including in: Journal of Policy Modeling, Journal of Economics and Business, Journal of Macroeconomics, Journal of Economic Studies, Journal of Development and Economic Policies and Arab Economic Journal. He graduated with a B. A. in Economics from Bir-Zeit University, Palestine; M.A. from George Mason University in Virginia-USA and a Ph.D. in Monetary Economics from the American University in Washington DC-USA.
