Bio
With over 28 years of professional experience, Dr. Haidar Fraihat is now the leader of the Statistics and Technology Cluster at UN ESCWA. He is an expert on statistics, technology and innovation internet governance. He earning his Ph.D. in scientific management from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1992. He his Master’s degree in business administration focusing on management information systems from University of Bridgeport, USA in 1988, both degrees with excellence distinction. He has established a strong mix between theory, applied hands-on experience and public policy over the span of his diversified career.
Haidar joined ESCWA in 2011 as a director of the ICT Division and director of the Technology Development Division in 2014 and got promoted to Senior Advisor on Technology and Innovation in 2019. Currently he is the Leader of the Statistics, Information Society, and Technology Cluster at UN ESCWA. Haidar presided several leadership and governmental positions in Jordan for a span of 6 years highlighted as the Director General of the Jordanian Department of Statistics and Director General of the National Information Technology Center (2006-2011).
Before that, for a fruitful career embarked at 1992, Haidar started as a professor and lecturer in several local and international universities starting at Chicago State University, the Illinois Institute of Technology and the Roosevelt University in USA, the University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia and the University of Sohar in Oman, Mutah University of and Petra and the University of Jordan in Jordan.
Over the 28-year career, Haidar was a member of the Jordan entry negotiations for membership of the World Trade Organization, the Jordanian Privatization Team and the Jordanian-European Partnership Team after working as chief of the Information and Technology Department at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Qatar and several memberships under the UN system.
