Bio
Miraq joined UNEP in 2020 as a national officer in Baghdad managing projects within science and ecosystems subprograms and working closely with UNEP’s partners in the Iraqi government and the international community. He then joined the UNEP Regional Office of West Asia in Beirut as Regional Coordinator Science-Policy Interface.

Before that, Miraq was Country Manager for a GIZ-funded project helping the capacity development of youth in Iraq.

Prior to that and while living in the USA, he spent eight years of his career as Project Manager with private-sector corporations, during which he managed and implemented information systems and data analysis platforms.

His career started with the USAID in 2008 as a Programme Specialist working across multiple projects in Iraq supporting the government with science and economical governance.

He holds an MBA from Walsh College in Michigan, and a B.Sc. in Microbiology from Mustansiriyah University in Baghdad.

Miraq is an Iraqi National, fluent in Arabic and English.
