Dr. Sukaina Al-Nasrawi leads the sustainable urban development portfolio at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA). In collaboration with international, regional, national, and local stakeholders, she advances policy on urban resilience, localization of global development goals, smart and inclusive cities in the Arab region.
Dr. Al-Nasrawi has diverse international professional experience in socio-economic development, gender equality, statistics, and technology, within the umbrella of sustainable development. She has a distinguished record of notable publications on smart sustainable cities, multidimensionality of smartness of cities, technology for development, the 4th industrial revolution, among others.
Dr. Al-Nasrawi has received several awards in recognition of her contribution to research and development. This includes the best research award of the 15th European conference on e-government held in the United Kingdom in 2015 and the United Nations gold award on advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women in 2016.
She holds a PhD in Information Technology focused on smart sustainable cities.
