Bio
Mario Jales is an Economic Affairs Officer at the 2030 Agenda and SDG Coordination Cluster of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), where he contributes to the enhancement of regional dialogue and knowledge on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the Arab region. Previously, Mr. Jales was an economist at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), where he managed technical cooperation projects, supported consensus building initiatives, and conducted research and analysis on trade, sustainable development, commodities and climate change. He was also project director at the Institute for International Trade Negotiations, fellow at Cornell University, research fellow at the Inter-American Development Bank, and consultant at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the World Bank. Mr. Jales holds a Ph.D. in Applied Economics from Cornell University and master’s degrees from Stanford University and Georgetown University. He has authored or co-authored dozens of policy papers, technical reports, journal articles and book chapters on sustainable development.
