Bio
John O’Toole is the Principal Economic Affairs Officer in ESCWA. Prior to joining ESCWA, he worked as an Inter-Regional Adviser in the Division for Inclusive Social Development in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York. He has also worked for the government of Ireland in Dublin in the Finance, Health and Social Protection Ministries, and in Brussels in the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU, and for the European Union in Stockholm.
He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from University College Dublin, a Master’s degree in Public Sector Analysis from Trinity College Dublin and a PhD from the University of Liverpool. He is a graduate of the French École Nationale d’Administration. His research interests include building economic and social inclusion, reducing inequalities, creating jobs for young people and recovery and resilience in the Arab region.
