Bio
Lamiaa Kalawi is the Regional Advisor on Social Development & Social Justice in UN ESCWA. She has more than 15 years of work experience in sustainable development programmes within UN Agencies and International Development Organizations in the MENA Region, sub-saharan Africa and Europe. Lamiaa has a blend of national, regional and international experience in social development, inclusive growth, gender equality and women empowerment, migration and refugees, good governance, employment and decent work, and others.
Before joining the UN ESCWA Lamiaa was Senior Social Development Consultant at the World Bank, MENA Program. She also worked as Regional Programme Coordinator for UN Women Egypt , Regional Projects Officer for UNODC/ROMENA, Regional Coordinator in Transparency International Secretariat, and Programme Officer for ILO North Africa.
Lamiaa has a master’s degree in public policy for sustainable development from the Oxford University, UK, a post graduate diploma in human resources development from the American University in Cairo, a bachelor degree in English language and linguistics from the University of Alexandria, and professional certificates in good governance and rule of law with focus on fragile States from the Hague Academy for Local Governance.
