Bio
Oussama Safa is currently the Chief of the Social Justice Section at the UN ESCWA in Beirut, where he focuses on issues of social and economic inequality; political economy of the Arab world, citizen participation in policymaking, youth engagement, and social justice. His work encompasses research for innovative policy solutions, technical cooperation and assistance to member States, the development of cutting-edge capacity building material and policy advice on issues of equality, equity, rights and participation. Mr. Safa is widely published on social development, inequality, governance and peacebuilding. Prior to this, he was General Director of the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies, a Beirut-based think-tank working on public policies, governance and development in Lebanon and the Middle East and North Africa Region. He has vast experience in research, advocacy and capacity building; he was also a lecturer at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa, the Lebanese University and the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut . Mr. Safa holds graduate degrees in international affairs and international development from The American University, Washington, DC and an undergraduate in political science from the American University of Beirut.
