Bio
Julien Le Tellier has joined ESCWA Cluster 5 (2030 Agenda and SDG Coordinator), as Economic Affairs Officer, in October 2022. That position follows his 14-year engagement in the UNEP/Mediterranean Action Plan – Barcelona Convention Secretariat, as Programme Officer in Plan Bleu Regional Activity Centre in Marseille, France (2009–2017) and as Socio-Economic Affairs Officer at the UNEP/MAP Coordinating Unit in Athens, Greece (2017–2022). Julien brings a substantial background on policy-oriented research projects aiming to bridge the gap between scientists and decision-makers through participatory approaches. He supervised groups of experts and local studies in projects on Sustainable Tourism, testing an innovative methodology to assess the environmental, social and economic footprint of tourism activities in Mediterranean destinations. He also supervised case studies on Urban Mobility in North African and Middle East agglomerations. Julien holds a PhD (2006) from Aix-Marseille University, France, and a post-PhD (2007) in Rabat, Morocco. He authored scientific publications, reports, chapters of reports, and two books.
