Bio
Bryony is currently an Economic Affairs Officer at ESCWA, where she provides substantive and coordination support to the Cluster Leader. Bryony is leading the preparations for the Intergovernmental Meeting for the 14th Committee on Social Development (convened between ESCWA and the Ministers of Social Development across the 20 Member States) by providing substantive papers for discussion and by coordinating logistics. Bryony is also supporting the upcoming Arab Forum for Equality by drafting the final chapter of the flagship publication, leading the development of an online policy portal that showcases policies that have successfully reduced inequality in the Arab region, and by general coordination support.
Before ESCWA, Bryony was the Economist in the Resident Coordinator’s Office in Lesotho, where she was responsible for producing the Common Country Analysis, providing economic analysis and advice to the Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team, supporting the Government of Lesotho in their COVID-19 response and economic recovery plan, and coordinating the relationship between the Government of Lesotho and UN agencies, and coordinating joint UN programmes.
Previously, Bryony worked at the East African Development Bank as the Economist in the Director General’s Office, where she provided economic analysis and wrote speeches for the Director General and managed programmes worth US$ 70 million to expand access to finance for rural and agricultural populations and for biodiversity projects in Kenya and Uganda. At EADB, Bryony sat on the Steering Committee for the UNFCCC RCC Kampala (which assists 26 African countries to build their capacities under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement).
Bryony also worked at the Bank of Uganda as the Head of Global Economic Developments, and at the Bank of England as a Research Assistant.
Bryony has a MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge and a first-class BSc in Economics from Sheffield University.
